Fear Not. I Will Be With You – 8 Bible Verses About Fear That Reminds Us of God’s Promises

During times of uncertainty many people can become fearful. As the coronavirus creates global panic around the world, let us remind ourselves of the words and promises of God.

Fear. Different experiences can arouse this emotion. It’s a natural response to the unknown, danger, pain, the thought of losing one’s life or a loved one. When we give in to this four letter word, it has the power to paralyze us, steal our joy, hope, keep us from leaving our houses, make us withdraw and hurt family and friends. It can even go as far as to make us physically sick.

I’ve had fearful thoughts. It’s been one of my struggles even in Korea. But I’m grateful for the words and promises of God; its divine power frees us from the grip of fear.

Here are 8 Bible Verses About Fear That Reminds Us of God’s Promises

1. Isaiah 35: 4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

2. Deuteronomy 31: 8 And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

3. Philippians 4: 6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

4. Joshua 1: 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

5. Isaiah 41: 13 -14 For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

6. Joel 2: 21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.

7. Jeremiah 30: 10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the Lord; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

8. Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The unknown, danger, pain, the thought of losing one’s life or a loved one can be difficult to bear. The mind likes to make up a million scenarios of what can go wrong. Most of the time these imaginations never come true. Instead of us acknowledging and feeling the fear, then choosing to stand on God’s promises, we can get stuck being scared, restless, paranoid, nervous, and hopeless. In these moments we aren’t trusting God, because we are so focused on the problem. We forget. We doubt God will keep his word.

Luckily we have an amazing Father in heaven. He is strong in our weakness. His unconditional love and faithfulness seeks to turn our hearts back to him. This is because he understands our human nature. He recognizes that there will be times when our fear may take hold of us.

Fear is real. Don’t ignore it. Acknowledge it. Feel it. Then encourage yourselves with the words of God. Repeat it until you believe it. The current climate of the world: COVID19, brought a great fear into this world, and its normal. But how do we move pass the fear?

So God also acknowledges the emotion, the fear, then he gives us his promise after the word WILL. Meaning, he’s going to, he is disposed, expected, it’s inevitable, he’s determined to fulfill that promise.

Fear not. God promises he will be with you. He will not fail, neither forsake you. He will come, save, strengthen, help, guard, and uphold you. He will do great things.
