3 Ways to Wear a Turtleneck Sweater

The great thing about wearing turtlenecks is that you can dress them up in different ways. Where there’s fall, winter and spring, you’ll definitely find turtleneck sweaters. Since my short time in Korea, I’ve see women wearing really stylish outfits with turtlenecks. They were my inspiration for this blog post.

The three outfits below are paired with a cream turtleneck and nude Nine West Anisa d’Orsay Block Heel Pump from Nordstrom Rack. Your choice of footwear can easily change the outfit from classic, semi-formal to casual.

Here are 3 Ways to Wear a Turtleneck Sweater:

The Classic Look

Happy Dance
  • With a dress. This is a popular look among Korean women. It’s one of my favorites. I always do a little happy dance in my mind whenever I see a woman rocking this style. I really like the deep splits on each side of this dress. The material is also very soft. I bought it from Gmarket, a global Korean online store. It comes with a belt, which helps give the dress it’s lovely shape.

The Semi-Formal Look

  • With a blazer. I really like this style because it looks really great on both men and women. It’s the ultimate attention grabber especially when the blazer and turtleneck’s color contrast. I’m wearing a lime green blazer courtesy of my mom and this skirt is from Koton, a Turkish clothing company.

The Casual Look

  • With a skirt. This casual look comes with a few options. You can wear your sweater tucked inside the skirt. This helps to accentuate the hips and create or maintain an hour-glass figure. Depending on the type of sweater, you can choose to wear it outside the skirt, especially if it’s an oversize sweater. I chose to pair it with a polka dot maxi skirt given to me as a gift.

There are more looks you can create with a turtleneck sweater. These sweaters can be worn with vests, like I did here in A Korean Faux Fur Vest , cardigans, or top coats. You also have the option of wearing pants instead of skirts with the semi-formal and casual look. It’s common in Korea, especially in winter for people to keep their coats on all day. The coat then becomes an entire outfit or statement piece, so the color and style matters. I hope you were inspired by these three looks. Which one is your favorite?
