There is one tried and true way to turn any outfit from wow to WOW: add fur, real or faux. After I agreed to MC for my school’s foreign language contest, my first thought was, “what should I wear?” That day, I went to the same local clothing store where I bought My First Dress “Made In Korea”. I searched and searched, then I found the vest hanging in the back. I debated whether or not I should buy it. (Cost: 45,000 won or approx. $37) When I saw the Made in Korea tag, I happily made the purchase.
The Fur
This fur vest is black with a hood and hooks to close the vest from the top, middle or bottom. It’s very warm and light. The fur is soft. It has pockets on each side. I really like the different textures, patterns and color contrasts here. I didn’t realized the vest was a large until I threw it on minutes before going on stage. So I pinned together about six inches of it using a large hard plastic paperclip.
The Skirt and Shirt
I purchased this mid-length plaid skirt from Vin Prime, a chain thrift shop throughout Seoul. (Cost: 10,000 won approx. $8) They sell really affordable, good quality second-hand clothing from Japan, Europe and the USA. I went to the location inside the Express Bus Terminal (a huge underground shopping mall) in Seoul. Recently I found a priceless item from this thrift store and can’t wait to share it in a future blog post. What I love the most about shopping in Korea is that you can find mid-length skirts and dresses almost anywhere. Many Korean women embrace this style, and now me! I purchased the turtle neck shirt from one of the stores at the terminal. Turtle necks are a timeless trend for the fall and winter season.
The Stockings and Shoes
Luckily I stuffed my favorite burgundy stockings in my luggage to come to Korea. They matched well with the burgundy stripes on the skirt. This black Calvin Klein Brady Patent Leather Pointed-Toe Pump is a go-to for almost any outfit or occasion. I bought them from Nordstrom Rack in Downtown Brooklyn.
