My Favorite Korean Spicy Sauce

All good chicken begins in the marination process. This Korean spicy sauce did not disappoint.  It all started at my school’s staff dinner. We went to a local restaurant to eat duck. I thought the sauce was so delicious that I asked for the recipe. When I finally went to the supermarket to find this sauce somehow I came across Beksul Dak-Bokkeum-Tang Yangnyeum Spicy Sauce for Braised Chicken Sauce. I was so happy I did. To make this dish simple and quick, I combined the chicken with Ramen and potatoes.

What you’ll need:

  • One serving size of Ramen
  • 5 pieces of chicken breast
  • Ground black pepper
  • Half of an onion
  • 2 Large potatoes
  • Two small packets of brown sugar
  • 4 table spoons of Beksul Dak-Bokkeum-Tang Yangnyeum Spicy Sauce for Braised Chicken Sauce

The secret sauce isn’t a secret.

How to make this:
– First wash, peel, and chop your potatoes. Boil them for 25-30 minutes in a pot with a little bit more water than you need. This will be the base for the Ramen.

– When the potatoes are almost finished, add one serving size of Ramen. Depending on the thicken of Ramen, it may take some time to cook. Adding it early on allows for the potatoes and Ramen to finish cooking at the same time.

– While the potatoes boil, chop the chicken breast into cubes. In a bowl, add the chicken along with 4 tablespoons of the Korean spicy sauce (feel free to adjust the amount to your liking), ground black pepper, chopped onions and one or two small packets of brown sugar. Let the chicken marinate with the sauce for about 15 minutes before cooking. If it’s marinated overnight even better. I made this meal the same day.

– When it’s done marinating, add a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil then the chicken to the pan. Cook until it becomes tender and soft.

– When the chicken is cooked, add a few pieces of meat on top of your bowl of Ramen for a cool presentation (optional). When I make this again, I will separate the meat from the Ramen because the broth washes away the delicious sauce off the chicken. It’s best to keep the chicken and Ramen separate.

Total Cooking Time: 35 minutes

I really enjoyed cooking with this sauce!  I will be sharing another dish I made using this same sauce. It’s so good.
